"Learning to love, live and celebrate as we grow in the knowledge and love of Christ"

EYFS

Welcome to the 2023-2024 academic year!

The Early years' foundation stage (EYFS) consists of Nursery - FS1 and Reception - FS2. Your child's teachers this year are:

FS 1 - Mrs N. Cohen, Mrs R Trowbridge & Mrs C. McCloone.

FS 2 - Mrs C. Jevon, Miss E. Miles, & Mrs L Samtani.

Within the Foundation Stage, our intent is to provide a secure foundation for future learning and skills development for each child. We are all wonderfully made by God, and it is our mission as Foundation Stage practitioners to connect with each child's personality, experiences, skills and interests to support them in recognising their wonderful uniqueness and develop a love of learning.

To implement this, we use the skills and outcomes in the EYFS Framework, and our ethos as a Catholic school, to carefully create a Curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of our children here at St Thomas More. Wherever possible, we mix learning linked to the interests of the children with providing insights and experiences of the wider world around us. A key aim is to develop children’s communication skills and personal, social and emotional development, ensuring that they know how to appropriately express themselves, share their opinion and feel heard and valued. We have used the Learning Powers Approach to develop our own team of Power Pets, who remind us of the key Learning Powers: Teamwork Teodor (Reciprocity), Have-a-go Holly (Resilience), Seeking Sanjay (Resourcefulness) & Reflective Roisin (Reflectiveness). Everything we do is underpinned by the crux of our ethos: our Gospel Values. Through our curriculum and relationships, our children are encouraged to be independent, curious, creative and resilient learners who show respect for each other, our communities and God's world.

We value the importance of good relationships between children, school and home and welcome regular contact between parents and staff. At intervals thoughout the year we open our doors for a 'stay and play', and we share weekly class information via Marvellous Me. We are available for quick information passing-on at the gate every morning and afternoon, and we can arrange longer conversations through contact via admin@stmore.herts.sch.uk.
